魏姿芸是一位臺灣藝術家，以碎片化的自我檔案與圖畫/書寫為基底，並透過限時限地的暫時性空間、虛構敘事與策展，叩問身份認同的潛在敘事與當下性。近期展覽「印物進行中：是什麼讓書成為書？Printing in Progress: What Makes a Book a Book?」(2025)，「健忘國度 Nation of Scatterbrain」（2024），「我們做/在『這裡』」（2024)。

作為引導者，她透過教授小誌（Zine）寫作與製作，協助參與者闡述潛在或偏好的敘事與可採取行動。其教學實踐曾與多個組織及機構合作，包括普瑞特藝術學院（Pratt Institute）、醜小鴨出版社（Ugly Duckling Presse）、國立臺灣科技大學、台大藝文中心以及台北藝術書展（Taipei Art Book Fair）。

她目前也是共同集合（Co-Assembly）以及設計與藝術社群花園SpOnAcT的共同創辦人。Tzu-Yun Wei (Bushwa’s Room) is a Taiwan-based artist, designer/facilitator, worker-owner. Their makings are based on&#38;nbsp; fragmented self-archives, drawing/writing. By creating temporary, site-specific spaces and employing fictional narratives and curations, they explore the nowness of paradoxical identity. Selected exhibitions include Printing in Progress: What Makes a Book a Book? (2025), Nation of Scatterbrain (2024), Things We’ve Done Here Make it “Here” (2024).
As a facilitator, they teach zine-writing/making for articulating potential/preferred narratives and actions for participants. Their pedagogical practices have collaborated with organizations and institutions such as Pratt Institute, Ugly Duckling Presse, National Taiwan University of Science and Technology, NTU Art Center, and the Taipei Art Book Fair.&#38;nbsp;As a worker-owner, they are currently a co-founder of the Taiwan Design Cooperative Co-Assembly and the design community garden SpOnAcT.

Contemporary Labor’s Survival Guide &#124; CoAssemblyA collection of insights we wish to share after one year of establishing Coassembly design cooperative. In the narrow gaps between our full-time jobs, we met weekly to discuss and co-author this book that looks beyond individual success or failure, focusing instead on the structural labor dilemmas we observed.

ABOUT

Tzu-Yun Wei (they/them) is a Taiwanese artist/designer living in Taipei; they apply design as a strategic tactic to foster relatedness in lived experience, through forms of graphic, writing, curations. They have collaborated with mission-driven nonprofits like Right To Play, Ugly Duckling Presse, Processing Foundation, Taipei Art Book Fair and ONEeducation to design content and develop teaching materials for different marginalized communities.


Co-organizer of Taiwan Processing Community Day (2023), the Open Island: Free Admission public screening (2024), and the Printing In Progress: What Makes A Book A Book research project (2025), their work has been recognized by the National Culture and Arts Foundation and has been exhibited in New York, Tokyo, and Taipei.


As an educator, Tzu-Yun has led courses and workshops in design writing and poetic technology for Pratt Institute and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology.


Tzu-Yun holds an M.F.A. in Communications Design from Pratt Institute. Currently as a co-founder of Co-Assembly–a Taiwanese co-op investigating the collective power of humanizing data through research, experimentation and organizing.

This project focuses on the formation of queerness within everyday movements, kinship (especially between my mother and me), and self-creation (zine-making as a sense of belonging). Using the asterisk as a metaphor for the liminality and multiplicities in personhood, I aim to propose an epistemological approach to a timeline that wanders between self, translation, and nation, that can not be “tamed” by the linear, canon history, which flattens and omits the complexity of lives.

An instructional zine to promote the asterisk costume during the 2023 Pratt Show. Through this zine, I encourage the audience to wear the costume and immerse themselves in the show as an asterisk. By posing questions related to topics like gendered typeface, male-dominated design history, and emotional literacy, the audience can learn to perform the functions of an asterisk: indicating omissions, adding footnotes, and resistance.

Tzu Yun Wei (they/them) is a Brooklyn-based Taiwanese design researcher and cultural facilitator. 
Growing up as a Taiwanese queer individual navigating the complexities of nationality, gender, sexuality, ethics, and identity from the margins. Tzu Yun draws inspiration from zine culture, nomadic concepts, and transnational queerness, which drive their creative endeavors; their works and research focus on empowering multi-layered subjectivity in individuals through dialogue-based workshops, events, and mixed media. 

 Their work has gained recognition through scholarships, collaborations, workshops, and lectures, including participating in the Processing Community Day Taiwan 2023, Other Island Book Fair, Pratt Institute, BEAMS, TAIPEI ART BOOK FAIR, and more.They now work as a freelance design researcher and cultural facilitator; they’re also a member of SpOnAcT, a Taiwanese design collective.

However, in an increasingly technological knowledge-making environment, students over drowned and get lost while connecting different contexts, disciplines, and technologies with inertial thinking and research tools. As a graduate student of Pratt and a design researcher, I dig into students’ design research routines and experiences with tools to break through the inertial cycle of learners.
	

SurveyI reached out to 15 design research learners 23-26 years old and studying their second year in the communication design graduate program at Pratt to learn about their interpretation of research experience.

Design brief
	

	My research shows that, esearch learners in design graduate school lean toward “search” by technology and assumption to get answers instead of rethinking questions. Learners often linger around browsing, searching, and googling.

	To stimulate curiosity and reflection in research learners in the RtD process, I made a workshop method to interfere the inertial thinking process.

Processing Community Day (PCD) promotes the creative coding platform "Processing," an open-source programming language for visual arts, digital design, and interactive projects. 	Background story
In 2004, Taiwan released the Gender Equality Education Act to promote not only gender, also sexuality equality in public affairs and education field. However, according to the 2020 School Climate Survey on LGBTQ+ Students in Taiwan (conducted by Taiwan LGBTQ+ Hotline Association),&#38;nbsp; over 50% of students experience verbal harassment due to their gender expression, and 70% of them experienced anxiety symptoms. Facing harassment and exclusion, over 50% of the students never told their parents and faculties about their difficulties and helplessness. I aims to figure out what factors are involved and how can I open a discussion space for the queer teens in Taiwan.

Result shows that comparing to at school and on the internet, only 32% of students agree that they’re confortable taliking about sexuality-related topics with family.&#38;nbsp;


Social listening
Why are the discussion space for sexuality and gender full of awkwardness and fear? To figure out, I joined the Taiwan LGBTQ+ Hotline chat room to collect more perspectives from parents and LGBTQ+ students, sorting out the rooted complexity in different families.

To find out who and where will students turn to when they’re facing systematic struggles in home and schools, I survey the 16 students also from 15-24 about their past experiences in searching for supports and informations.

	Design Output

My research shows that, family relations often come with the default normativity that excludes fear, vulnerability and multiplicities in each of us. The normativity affects the queer youths and their parents, causing their minority stress. In this project, I am seeking to&#38;nbsp;facilitate an open and empathy dialouge for family, when it comes to coming-out, emotion education, and gender-related discussion.

What’s Your Dream: Drawing 2gether workshop
What’s Your Dream: Drawing 2gether is a co-drawing workshop for the Other Islands Book Fair at Pratt Institute. The purpose is to explore participants’ dreams and life purposes through the drawing and workshop process. 


	Background storyRecently I’ve been searching for designer/researcher jobs. While I was sending emails like crazy, a design studio asked applicants to answer a question, “What’s your dream?” with an image and attach it with other application materials. For me, dreams relate to our life purposes as individuals and as designers, and what kind of conversation can be facilitated during the drawing process? How can dreams become the bridge to understanding others?

	Preparation

For drawing tools, I used length wood sticks to extend the markers (I encourage lecturers to create the craziest drawing tools with surrounding materials, It will be so much fun!) As for the methods, there’re four prompts to cooperate with tools:

Close your eyes
Pair and draw with person next to you
Draw with both your hands
Draw with your unfamiliar hand or other body parts.In each section, players will switch their tools and methods.

In the process, some players find they have the same or similar dreams; then they start to draw and dream together.

 What’s Your Dream: Posing 2gether is a 1-hour workshop taught at Pratt Institute. While facing their graduation, students are working on professionalizing their works and portfolios, to figure out their trajectory. This workshop aims to lead students to rethink their relations with their careers.


 Based on research on self-determination theory, meaningful work is a critical element of the positive functioning of employees, but what makes work meaningful? Four psychological satisfactions substantially influence work meaningfulness across cultures: autonomy (sense of volition), competence (sense of efficacy), relatedness (sense of caring relationships), and beneficence (sense of making a positive contribution). What’s Your Dream series workshops start by exploring relatedness and selves through tangible objects and combining them with the professionalization in the course. This workshop aims to clarify and remind students of their meaningfulness in their 2-year learning process and speculates and reveals their potential selves and roles in their careers.


 The participants will think about the following:
- As a human, what is my priority in my current life?
- As a learner, what I’ve learned in the design graduate program? 
- As a designer, what is my life purpose, and what value do I want to support through my design?
- How to empower our personalities and personhoods in future careers and workspaces? 
- How can we support each other as allies and friends, and what are the potential ways to collaborate?

	Set up:
Before the workshop begins, educators must turn on the chill, lo-fi music as a warm-up and arrange paper strips set to the activity spot, ensuring each player has enough play space.

In the first section (Who are you?), each player will have a set of flexible paper strips to play around with to change the shape into their interpretations of selves. In the second section (What is your dream?), players will have more paper strips to add to create their dreams’ environment or scenario, cooperating with their shapes from the previous section.

2. Subconciousness in object ↔︎ human interaction:
 ︎︎︎ In the workshop, the players reveal their life priorities, including freedom in ideology, family connection, cultural belonging, etc., and further explore their role in teamwork, community, and social circle.
︎︎︎ Players perform their shapes through body movements and postures in the sharing process. 

3. Teaching as learning:
 ︎︎︎ I learned about listening, leading, and encouraging as an educator and observer. In the process, I enjoy tackling people together and building connections.
 

Sustainbility:
Discussions on meaningfulness and relatedness for different social groups and statuses can further explore the lack of meaning in post-modern everyday life and how the crisis can affect our mental health and economy.
